Samarinda, August 26, 2025 – The Geography Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Mulawarman University, successfully organized the 10th Geography Science Olympiad (GEOSCI X) on August 26–27, 2025, at the Prof. Dr. Masjaya, M.Sc. Building. The prestigious academic competition brought together hundreds of high school students from across Kalimantan in a spirit of collaboration, innovation, and enthusiasm for geography.
With the theme “Optimizing Educational Innovation as a Pillar of National Transformation Towards a Competitive and Sustainable Future,” GEOSCI X highlighted the university’s role in preparing young generations to address global challenges through innovative and sustainable approaches.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Bibit Suhatmady, M.Pd, Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Collaboration, who emphasized the importance of geography in sustainable development. Also present were Dr. Abdul Hakim, M.Pd, Head of the PMIPA Department, and faculty members of the Geography Education Study Program.
GEOSCI X featured not only the Geography Olympiad but also an Essay Competition, a Poster Competition, and a Geo Talk Seminar on “Trends and Developments in Deep Learning,” aligning geography with cutting-edge technology.
As a special recognition, the first-place winner of GEOSCI X will receive a tuition fee scholarship for the first semester if admitted through the SNBP pathway in the Geography Education Study Program, FKIP Mulawarman University.
The strong participation of students across Kalimantan reflected the high enthusiasm for the event, which served as a platform for building character, expanding networks, and fostering creativity. The committee, particularly the HIMAPGEO student association, was highly appreciated for their dedication in ensuring the success of this annual academic agenda.
