The Geography Education Study Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Mulawarman, organized a socialization event entitled “Creating a Safe Campus: Prevent Bullying and Sexual Violence” on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. The activity featured two speakers, Meivita Romadon Ningrum, M.Pd., and Triandi Bimankalid, S.H., M.H., both of whom possess expertise in educational and legal aspects related to student protection. This initiative was carried out as part of the program’s commitment to establishing a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic environment free from all forms of intimidation and gender-based violence. Moreover, the event serves as a concrete effort to implement national regulations on the prevention and handling of sexual violence in higher education institutions and to strengthen students’ literacy regarding ethical and healthy academic interactions.

The socialization aimed to enhance the academic community’s understanding of the definitions, forms, and impacts of bullying and sexual violence within educational settings, while also equipping students with knowledge on prevention, reporting mechanisms, and case-handling procedures. The speakers presented psychological, social, and pedagogical dimensions of bullying behavior, alongside legal frameworks, victims’ rights, and institutional protection mechanisms. Through an interactive approach, students were encouraged to recognize risk factors, identify warning signs, and develop proactive attitudes to promote a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

This activity provided significant benefits, including improved student awareness of issues surrounding sexual violence, strengthened campus culture of mutual care, and clearer comprehension of available reporting channels and support systems. Additionally, the event encouraged students to speak up, protect themselves, and support their peers when faced with behaviors that violate ethical and legal norms. The socialization also reinforced the role of the study program in cultivating an academic environment that is safe, responsive, and supportive of students’ psychosocial well-being.

Looking ahead, it is expected that FKIP Universitas Mulawarman will continue advancing its efforts to build a campus free from bullying and sexual violence and to promote an academic culture grounded in human rights, equity, and student safety. The study program hopes that similar initiatives can be carried out regularly through seminars, workshops, and broader educational campaigns, ensuring that protection and prevention efforts become more sustainable and have a tangible impact on the student community.
