The Geography Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Mulawarman successfully organized a Presentation and Public Speaking Training on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the 3rd Floor Deanery Hall of FKIP. The event was attended by hundreds of students from the 2024–2025 cohorts who enthusiastically participated in the entire series of activities from beginning to end.
The event was officially opened by the Coordinator of the Geography Education Study Program, who emphasized in the opening remarks the importance of communication, presentation, and public speaking skills for students, particularly in supporting their future academic and professional competencies. The coordinator also highlighted that public speaking is one of the essential skills students must possess in the modern era.
In this activity, the Geography Education Study Program invited Masduki Zakaria as the speaker, practitioner, and lecturer in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. During the session, he explained various fundamental techniques and effective strategies for delivering engaging, confident, and communicative presentations. The materials covered vocal techniques, stage presence, presentation organization, body language, and methods for overcoming nervousness while speaking in public.
In addition to receiving theoretical material, participants were also given the opportunity to directly practice presentations and public speaking in front of other participants. The practice session was interactive and lively, allowing students to receive direct evaluations and feedback from the speaker regarding delivery style, intonation, eye contact, and self-confidence while presenting.
This training activity is expected to improve the communication skills of Geography Education students, enabling them to be better prepared for academic activities, seminars, research presentations, and the professional world. Furthermore, the event also served as a platform for developing students’ soft skills in line with the competencies required in the 21st century.
