The Geography Education Student Association of Mulawarman University (HIMAPGEO UNMUL) successfully organized the Geography Science Olympiad (GEOSCI XI) on May 21–22, 2026. The event, held at the Masjaya Building and within the Mulawarman University area, became a platform for developing competence, creativity, and collaboration among students and geography education communities in East Kalimantan.

GEOSCI XI was attended by high school students from various schools across East Kalimantan, as well as teachers, university students, and the academic community of the Geography Education Study Program at Mulawarman University. The event was organized as part of HIMAPGEO UNMUL’s commitment to enhancing the interest, knowledge, and skills of the younger generation in geography and earth sciences.

The series of activities began with the grand opening on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The opening ceremony included participant registration, entertainment performances, the official opening session, the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, the Mulawarman University anthem, and the IMAHAGI anthem, followed by remarks from representatives of HIMAPGEO, the Geography Education Study Program, and faculty leaders.

On the first day, participants took part in various competition activities such as the geography olympiad, poster presentations, and practicum sessions. In addition, the event featured educational seminars that provided participants with broader insights into the development of geography, environmental studies, and disaster-related issues.

The event continued on the second day with a lively closing ceremony. The closing session featured speeches, entertainment performances, the sharing of impressions and messages from teachers and participants, and the announcement of the winners of GEOSCI XI. An atmosphere of enthusiasm and togetherness could be felt throughout the event.

The Chairperson of the GEOSCI XI Committee stated that the event was not only a competition platform but also a space for learning and character development for the participants.

“GEOSCI XI is expected to become a platform for the younger generation to enhance critical thinking skills, creativity, and awareness of geographical and environmental issues in the future,” he stated.

Through the implementation of GEOSCI XI, HIMAPGEO UNMUL and the Geography Education Study Program of Mulawarman University continue to demonstrate their commitment to supporting innovative, competitive, and globally relevant geography education development.
